From what I see, I lose the touchpad's functionality as soon as I start
typing into any available field, be it the Unity Dash or a Nautilus

I think the dash looked far better without those icons before. If
minimizing /maximizing the dash is needed, it could be done with a click
on the lower right corner or something similar. But those icons really

Still have this issue as well.
As a side note, simply hovering over the launcher when coming out of
suspend or hibernation when a window is maximized doesn't always clear
the corruption. I then have to first minimize the window and then touch
the launcher with the mouse cursor and it clears up.
I tried this today again and still no joy! My scanner is not recognized
as such, however it worked great during Oneiric development until
recently. To me, this is a regression and should be fixed.
So, this is a call for action, please. :)

As a side note, I have noticed that, for example, Thunderbird seems to
have gone stale by just sitting minimized in the launcher. When clicking
on it, nothing happens. The only way to reactivate it is by alt-tabbing
