required for anything else. I'll try removing it anyway.

I have my Ubuntu box connected to a 32 inch Philips Monitor via HDMI .
Everything worked fine till I decided to upgrade packages . Upon reboot
I find that on the left , half of the side bar is chopped . Same for the
top menu bar .
I tried upgrading to the latest NVIDIA driver
Any update on this? I (and many others) would really like to use empathy
to connect to webex.

Solved:
Plz install the following package by changing the appropriate version of
ubuntu in the following line.
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic
You may need to update /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf with
options snd-hda-intel model=ideapad
