You can create a script file to launch skype with the preloaded library:
#!/bin/sh
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
..and then replace the Skype command in the Gnome/KDE menu with your script
file.

I have a similar problem, but it doesn't occur every time.
I have two screens - laptop at 1600x1024 and external at 1600x1200.
Often at startup, both of my panels which are on the laptop screen end
up on the external screen instead. Sometimes I restart X and they load
correctly.

Here's a link to the KNIM's website (PDF). It's in Maltese but it's an
alphabetical list of words so you can see the word Awwissu in it, with
the previous spelling crossed out, on page 3:

I'm using Intrepid and the issue is still there. There appear to be
other bugs probably related to this one. In most programs I simply can't
see anything, whereas a few show a very dark screen (eg, you can just
about see a light bulb right in front of the cam)

qc-usb driver does not work
Ok I installed the Intrepid debs. Didn't seem to make any difference to
tell you the truth. I'm currently running on dual screens of 1600x1200
and 1600x1024 (xorg.conf has Virtual 3200 1200).
Attempting to enable the visual effects gives Desktop effects could not
be enabled.

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: rdesktop
I am using rdesktop 1.6.0 on Ubuntu 8.10 to connect to a remote Win2003
server machine. The command used is the following:
rdesktop -T'192.168.2.121 - Terminal Server Client' -urac -pXX
-g1400x1050 -rsound:off -rclipboard:PRIMARYCLIPBOARD
Is it 11030 or some other? Could you link to the duplicate? I'd like to
keep watch for any suggested solutions.
