I upgraded to Natty in hopes that issues with the realtek driver would
be resolved. Unfortunately, the intermittent connections persist. I
have now switched to using ndiswrapper with M$ Windows drivers. I now
have no problems with my wifi connection. The problem seems to lie with
the native lin
ck to ubuntu, mouse does not work at all. Please tell
me what I need to do to fix this problem. Should I uninstall ubuntu 10.10 and
install 10.04? Or should I install the version that is most stable, 9.04?

It occured to me that something was going wrong in my downloading of those
three files, so I tried again but just dragged them across from your posts into
the directory I'd created (rather than clicking to download and then saving
them there).
Then the unpacking, building and installing all went
I noticed my downloading and saving of the files had added ".txt" to the .dsc
file, so I renamed it leaving off the .txt and tried again.
This time I got the following (tried both with or without a preceding sudo):

I've carefully followed the instructions at #27 and #44 but I can't get past
the 'unpack' bit at bullet 4.
Whether I'm in the first directory of the terminal or the directory containing
those downloaded files, I just get:
dpkg-source: error: can't open gnome-pilot_2.32.0-1.dsc: No such file or
I can't believe I'm encountering this in 10.10. Anyway, post #5 is a
clean, easy work around.
There are a load of wav files in
/usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.2/share/gallery/sounds/ You can also use:

to identify some on your hard disk.

I confirm that after installing portmap and nfs-common packages from
maverick-proposed I can use NFS auto-mounting with no problems at all.
My /var/log/boot.log has no statd error messages now after testing with
two reboots.

After Etienne and Clint said this problem is most easily reproduced by a
slow fsck - I checked and I do appear to have filesystems unmounted
uncleanly. So I'll investigate that as a separate issue (when I find out
how to get my shutdown messages recorded to log). I'm certainly
experiencing shutdown
My machine *always* starts with statd down and therefore with all NFS
auto-mounting not working.
$ sudo status statd
statd stop/waiting
I'll look out for maverick-proposed packages to test.

Also running Ubuntu 10.10 (64bit) on an IBM Thinkcentre M52 (9210-D1M),
945G integrated. Upgrade from 10.04. 'Hiccup jitter freeze' issue is
identical to above description. Have not attempted kernel replacement
yet, may wait for next kernel release.

No login sounds. Even with USB add-on audio device.
No volume control (pretty much) volume needs to me on max to be audible,
then raising volume makes for (too) loud - volume control has no lower
settings, it can
same problem here, system freezes randomly, can't be pinged anymore, no ssh
possible, needs hard reset.

First problems after updating from lucid. Also a clean install didn't help.
