I removed xserver-xorg-input-synaptics but still seem to be
encountering the same problem described here.

On numerous occasions when surfing the web in Chromium, Ubuntu (11.10)
gave me the same message on a black screen and then crashed out to the
log-in screen .

So just to confirm, I have the scanner as the first entry after the
label. The relevant section looks like this:

UPDATE: I have installed all updates through Update Manager and

I also have a Samsung SCX-3200. I have been holding off on upgrading to
11.10 due to a number of bugs but when I tested Ubuntu 11.10 in
VirtualBox scanning worked. This is what I did:
- I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 to a virtual drive via
VirtualBox. I have not run any Updates but I don't
