Well, actually I found out that the sound had been muted for rhythmbox
and apparently the mouse-over behaviour is hooked to it, because once I
increased the volume (in sound preferences/applications) everything came
back to normal. I wonder why the sound was muted in the first place.

Sound was working fine on Lucid until today. Today, I booted and I
noticed that rhythmbox produced no sound. When I mouse over music files
I have no sound either (I was expecting the usual preview of the music).

I am listeling to music in MPlayer now. If I go to the sound preferences
and change the output to radeon HDMI the sound is muted.
Might it be that the output of rhythmbox and mouse-over is tied to this
device? And why wouldn't it be working?
