I had a similar bug so reported twice - the other is 766734 and I marked it as
a duplicate of this.
I am not experiencing the problem now. That one (766734) I think it was
directly related to uninstalling the proprietry driver.
Unity works well with the non-propriety driver that automatically
its still working - how do I close this?

Using Additional drivers - fglrx fixes the issue, but I dont like this driver
as it is 'jerky' whereas the ubuntu driver was not
So I guess this is a ati mobility radeon hd4250 driver issue

Everything was current and most up-to-date at time of install.
No Not an update, a fresh install - of everything including Ubuntu.
Not the first time using VirtualBox, and I dont believe the issue is
fixed. I could not find any info that worked and did not believe that
the format it was created

I reinstalled ubuntu x64 9.04 and got the latest ati drivers from ati
have not had any problems since, so I'm removing myself from this
ticket, we rejoin if it happens again.

I reinstalled the 64 bit ubuntu and got all the updates. downloaded the
ati driver yesterday (from ati.com) jul 19 2009 and rebooted. tried out
the driver on games and totem. I've not been able to reproduce the
crash. I will try all the movies, but all appears well on at least 3 of
them. They are
I have the same except its when switching between workspaces. using the
arrow or the mouse appears to switch, but if I move an item to the right
I can never see it. I added shiny switcher. then clicking on it I could
see the apps. using the mouse again I could now not see the other apps.

I found that if I shut down without closing; when started evolution does not
ask for the keyring password and just hangs ... waiting I guess. I can force
quit and start it again but it still does not ask. if I force quit and reboot
then it will ask for the keyring password.
When shutting down
oh it doesn't happen everytime. when it happen last time the update
manager also wouldn't allow me to install the updates it had saying that
it too was locked do you think this is related?

all my crash problems seem to be related to compiz and the ati driver..
it appears if I minimize to awn and restart awn tries to restore it as
it was when minimized. Then if I mess with the video driver and compiz I
can crash totem. so yes I think it is related to compiz or the amd/ati
drivers.
I shut my computer down - evolution was minimized to awn - when I restarted
shutdown restarted the laptop and when opening/restoring evolution from awn it
gave me a same/similar problem. I checked what was running and it seemed two
events were not responding (perhaps because I have two email
I'm going to try reproduce it - simply minimizing or disconnecting
network doesn't do it. I set spamassin junk mail prefernces back to
include remote tests . the laptop had been inactive for 15 to 20
minutes. it is plugged in (ac) and power management set only to blank
screen after 15 minutes -
The VLC media player has the exact same symptoms -
the movie I'm using to reproduce the error is 512 x 288 XVID MPEG-4 25 frames
per second AC-3 audio Surround 5.1 48000Hz 384 kbps.
I did manage once to switch to tty1 but usually I can't do anything just get
many error messages on the screen.

yes on default install on my toshiba laptop smb-client doesn't see windows
network - works sometimes on wired.
resolved the issue by installing samba (not just the client) so I assume the
client is missing
