New input on this one: touchpad performance can be restored temporarily by # modprobe -r psmouse modprobe psmouse proto=imps for some time, functionality is restored, but will deteriorate within minutes. repeated reloading of the module seems to consistently restore functionality when taps

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg clicking via tap or hardware-button only works occasionally, often the mouse will hang in a pressed-state. Loading module synaptics_i2c got rid of this behaviour temporarily, but now the issue is back, even though synaptics_i2c is still loaded.
