Public bug reported: In gnome-keyboard-properties > Layout > Layout Options, the option for Making CapsLock an Additional Ctrl is in the Ctrl menu, rather than the CapsLock menu. Considering that the option to make CapsLock an additional Esc/Backspace is in the CapsLock menu, this is inconsistent.

I had this problem - reconfiguring xorg and killing the server didn't help. My machine hung on reboot, so I booted into OS X to re-enable rEFIt. After that, it worked fine (using the xorg.conf I had generated earlier). -- [Hardy] synaptic touchpad not detected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1950
