Public bug reported:

booted XGPS to speak with a GPSD server in my shed. XGPS loads, then
immediately dies:

Other clients (e.g. cgps) work fine.

my system: ubuntu 20.04 lts
gpsd server: raspbian buster
(both fully updated)
