I have the opposite problem. My brother had been using Programmer's Dvorak on my system. I did an update, and now lightdm is stuck in Dvorak -- I can't go back to Qwerty because it doesn't show up in the language list at the top of the screen. However, for other accounts, it uses Qwerty and Dvor

I am seeing this same behavior with a BRAND NEW Dell Studio 15 laptop with Ubuntu preinstalled. Similar chipset (Intel GM965 aka X3100), same xf86-video-intel driver. I tried installing ArchLinux on the laptop and had the same problem when using the "intel" driver in xorg.conf. "vesa" works fine
