I have tested this on both ext2 and ext4 file systems, but no others. I
see the following behavior:
rcshe...@privateer:~$ mkdir coreutils-bug

Regarding my last comment: I tried it, using the 2010-05-31-lucid
mainline kernel build. The issue seemed to take longer to come about,
but it still happened eventually.
