Public bug reported:
Hello everyone.
This is what I'm experiencing:
- If brightnes = 0:
1. I press "Fn + >" and brightness increase one step;
2. Press "Fn + >" again and another step is increased;
3. Press "Fn + >" again, but this time 2 steps are increased;
4. "Fn + >" increases another 2 steps
Killing gnome-power-manager makes no difference, brightness changes
always in two steps.

Well, I have cairo-dock running GL version and VLC works flawlessly... If it is
a fresh install, you should update it.
A few weeks ago, after a update VLC stopped working, but next day it got
working again.
You can also try switching the video output in configurations as a workaround.
It worked
If you can't see the rfkill stuff, it probably means that you don't even have e
wireless card found by kernel...
Please type as root (or sudo it):
lspci
tail /sys/class/rfkill/*/state
If "lspci" don't list any wireless interfaces, your problem should be
other than the one addressed here.

I was having the same wifi issue, but after installing the package
linux-backports-modules-2.6.31-2.deb AND removing then re-enabling the ath5k
module ("modprobe -f -r ath5k" then "modprobe ath5k") my wifi worked lika a
charm on kernel 2.6.31-2.
My atheros device is a AR5001 under a Acer Aspire
Sorry, I forgot to mention that after a reboot, the module workaround must be
done again.
I create a simple script and added to "startup applications":
Command to launch the script:
gksudo /home/...yourusername.../.wifiworkaround
(obviously you can change the script name :)
Script:
#!/bin/bash
