Today (after previous ISO rebuild), gnome-software allowed me to install
a snap (picard this time), and after installation the buttons changed to
launch, remove etc. I was able to launch the application, and after I
quit it, the back button in gnome-software took me to the front page.

This is occurring for me with python3.6-dev==3.6.4-4 amd64 from
bionic/main. Forcing a reinstall of the system's python3.6 pip package
fixes it, but this is pretty lousy default behavior.

I have a Nvidia GeForce 210 card, and this kernel broke the Nvidia Video
Driver kernel module for Nvidia-340-102 video driver. System boots up
and doesn't use nvidia driver, which makes the system hardly usable for
my purposes.

Just adding a comment that this is about more than just bootstrapping.
Users on the Trusty LTS cannot install deb packages from upstream
websites that were created with xz compression (ie. built with a newer
distribution). This is how I came to this bug today.
