All works well if RAR is not installed. Once I install RAR, the name of

Having RAR removed works perfectly.
Thank you for all your help.

I'm currently using Ubuntu 12.10.
I have both rar and unrar installed, not unar. I Installed unar but that
did not help either.
The problem happens when using the native Archive Manager (V 3.6.1.1).
Opening the rar archive works fine but when I try to extract the rtf
file inside the rar it says
Hi, Thanks for the prompt help. I confirm that after 'sudo swapoff -a' the
problem is gone.
System info shows memory size 741MB. I uncovered the PC and it has
2X256MB+2X128MB.
So, running Ubuntu with a lower swap size might help until there is a final
solution for this?

I'm experiencing this problem since I upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10.
I thought it had been a bad upgrade and I then did a fresh install and the
problem remains.
I've also experienced this on both Kde and Gnome sessions.
Sessions without acceleration like Ubuntu 2D are not affected.

It seems Canonical has no solution for this!
I've had this problem in Jaunty, Karmic and guess what? I've installed Lucid
and the issue is still here...
I know it's still a Beta version and I refuse to go back to window$ just for
this 1 issue but I'm guessing many people will do just that.

Guys,
I once used resource gnome session instead of normal gnome session and forgot
to put my session back to default gnome.
Today I changed back to normal gnome and this fixed the problem.
I checked on other stations and it's reproducible. It's still a bug though.
