I could get a static IP connection to work under Kubuntu Intrepid.
Now I installed "ubuntu-desktop" to have also the Gnome alternative. Since
then, my static IP disappeared when in KDE! On
I found in http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3101221 this command:
sudo ntpdate pool.ntp.org
In my case no need to kill ntpd, as the first poster wrote.
I fear it is a one time command (no permanent time update).

I am using Kubuntu Intrepid with KNetworkManager and WiFi, on a Dell XPS
M1330. I could get a static IP connection to work only with the
workaround I mentioned earlier here (2008-11-12).
Now I applied the suggestion of Nick Bridgwater (2008-12-09):

Same as nemarona, but I also uninstalled Network-Manager and kde network
helper apps (I don't remember exactly which ones were installed - I
removed all). Hand-editing both files gave me the desired static IP, and
it remained fixed even after reboots.
