Thank you so much. Your solution is exactly what I needed. Glxgears now
reports 380 fps. Certainly not a speed demon, but sufficient for what I
am doing.
Is there something I need to do to close this bug, or mark it as solved?

Thanks for the reply Dave,
I ran apport-collect as you requested, I have also attached my config
file (/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf) and my latest xorg.log
file. Let me know if I can do anything else.
