How exactly do I fix this mess? My cross-build VM is basically fucked
after upgrading to Bionic.

Eleni: So I was optimistic we would see this patch rolled out prior to
expiration of 12.04 given your note from Nov. 18th, but it doesn't seem
to have happened yet. Do you have any information or updates for those
of us who are truly stuck and starting to get very concerned?

Eleni: Is the patch/fix expecting to roll out for Xenial through the
standard update procedure, or will we need to apply it manually? I am
so excited that I will finally be able to move my developers past 12.04!

Started testing 16.04 and this issue is still present. If I can help in

Just to add to the voices of frustration at this loss of
functionality/change in behavior, I am trying to move from 12.04 to
14.04 on my development machines but can not do that with this bug still
in play. We are past the half life of 12.04 with no apparent upgrade
path to date.

I was pointed to this bug after the Ubuntu Customization Kit crashed on
12.04. It crashed after attempting to select the language pack (first
selection dialog box) so I believe it is the same bug and am not filing
a new bug report. If further information is needed, I am happy to try
to help as UC
I resolved the problem. I changed the Xorg.conf and now it works like it
should.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Okay, the following workaround works for me:
install gnome-alsamixer
uncheck the mute box on the second "speaker"
I don't know why it would have been muted in the first place.

I can confirm this bug. I am in Karmic with a Macbook 2,1 and the
headphone jack does not work. The alsamixer workaround did not work for
me, and I see no way to unmute surround, though I'm fairly certain I did
in Jaunty before I upgraded to Karmic.

Why is this confirmed when this is still a problem?

Public bug reported:
I have a dual-boot system with kubuntu and windows. In windows, I can
connect fine to my wireless network which uses WPA-2 encryption.
Kubuntu and ubuntu (both which I've tried) wont connect to the network.
The network is full strength, and uses G wireless.

So, correct me if I'm wrong. There is no work around right now?
I run into this bug when I run the command:
$ sudo alsa reload
And I really need to use this command, because the audio on my system is
flat out not working. If there's any way to fix this, I'd really like to
know about it.

How would I go about doing mounting my gvfs under /tmp? This bug is
causing me and at least several others to lose audio from our computers
altogether. I would like to know how to implement the workaround for
now. Would there be any side effects to mounting the gvfs in the /tmp
folder? Thanks.

Yeah, you're right. That bug more corresponds to my problem. Thanks!

Thank you. I'm pretty sure it is a crash, or something relating to it is
not functioning properly, causing me to lose my sound. When I run the
command "sudo alsa reload," I get this error message:

I still don't understand how to fix this in Intrepid. I have the most
recent stable version of gvfs, so what is still the problem?
