Had the same problem.
After deleting /root/.texmf-config/ and /root/.texmf-var/ everything worked
fine for me.
I guess the problem is due to getnonfreefonts (- fonts like Arial...)
which must not be run using sudo.

I'm having the same issue with Ubuntu Pidgin. I have two Hotmail users
that I keep clicking deny on but the Authorize buddy? prompt keeps
showing up for them each time I start Pidgin.

While using Pidgin on Ubuntu, one of my Yahoo Messenger groups has an
apparently corrupt name of uFriends. It was originally named just
Friends in Yahoo Messenger so I'm not sure where Pidgin got the
strange characters. The group name field
