Ubuntu 8.04.1, so my python2.5 package didn't get updated after
installation.

Please see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=839783
I installed Ubuntu 8.04 and performed all necessary updates.
Later, when I tried to install python-dev through Synaptic, I received
an error:
python-dev:
Depends: python2.5-dev
I have the same problem on my installation after upgrading from Gutsy to
Hardy.

Confirmed. Carl Fooks' patch works perfectly. Thanks.
