Public bug reported:

After installing Ubuntu with LVM to /dev/sdg. The installer still tries to 
install grub to sda for some reason and fails.
I then try and install to sdg1 (boot partition) fails, then try to install to 
sdg5 (lvm with root and swap) also fails.
