I have the same problem with Gutsy. This is my entry in menu.lst kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.22-13-generic root=UUID=230cdd63-abbb- 43e9-aa14-d2bbd5bf1c1c ro quiet splash apm=power-off acpi=force I have a P4 3GHz HT on an ASUS P5GD2 MB. BIOS shouldn't be a problem, both ACPI and APM suported.
