I tried vnc4 4.1.1+X4.3.0-32 from debian, and it builds and works on
karmic. A package sync should be sufficient to fix this bug.

To help explain how this actually looks (without xzoom), here is a
close-up of the same image from a camera. The top line is the default
ubuntu blurry font behavior, and the bottom line uses Johan's fix.
Note the shapes of letters "dy/+" near the right side. In the top

Thanks for the link to Johan's fix. The default font blur drives me
crazy... makes me feel like my monitor is miscalibrated or I have dirt
in my eyes.
Maybe the bug is considered a feature for black text on a white
background, but it causes problems when other colors are used. For

Binary package hint: xvnc4viewer
It would be nice to have a hotkey in xvnc4viewer to toggle fullscreen
mode.
I have needed VNC a lot lately for work, and often need to toggle
between fullscreen mode and the regular windowed mode. I often only

Jeff Martin included Xorg.0.log in question 33142. I'm attaching it
here, too.
As I understand it, there is no crash. It sounded as if switching to a
VT and back to X11 restored the video, but Jeff has ignored my questions
to confirm this.
Jeff, if you want this fixed, you'll have to provide mo
I'm not sure which this should be attached to:

- nvidia-graphics-drivers
- linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24
Some of the shorter details from the original question (33142):

BTW, this issue also exists in 2.16.1-0ubuntu1 (edgy) and
2.18.2-0ubuntu1 (gutsy). It probably is in every version of Ubuntu,
since the upstream bug was opened in 2002, and it's not fixed yet.
It doesn't sound like upstream has any interest in fixing it.

It doesn't say much that isn't already said here, but it's good to have these
things linked together.

Listing every conceivable package as a conflict is probably not a good
solution. Conflicting explicitly with known 3rd-party packages seems
kludgy at best. It would be safer to assume there are unaccounted files
in /usr/X11R6/bin, because users are unpredictable and do strange
things.
