Hi,
I haven't tried in 12.10 (quantal) but this does not seem to be an issue
in 12.04 LTS (precise). Note that this bug was reported during a
development release (alpha/beta) of 11.10 (oneiric).
Feel free to close this bug as it no longer affects me and does not seem
to affect anyone else.
Hi,
I think the suggested package names were just incorrectly named in the
message. I'm currently using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and after installing
xscreensaver-data-extra and xscreensaver-gl-extra, all the screensavers
seem to be enabled. However, the xscreensaver GUI suggested

Hi,
I have tested the 3.2.0-27.43 kernel in -proposed for Precise on my HP
DV6 and would like to confirm that it does indeed solve the problem.
Thanks!

Hi Luis,
I've tested the kernels you posted at
http://people.canonical.com/~henrix/lp1013183/ and here are the results
on my HP Pavilion DV6:
lp1013183v1: Sound OK
lp1013183v2: Sound OK
lp1013183v3: No sound
I also have the /var/log/dmesg logs and will post each one as an
attachment now.

Ok, so I tested the kernels mentioned in #32 and here are the results:
v3.2.19: Not fixed
v3.3-rc1: Fixed
v3.3 final: Fixed
For me, using one of the fixed upstream kernels is a satisfiable
workaround. However, if these updates won't land in precise
automatically (I'm assuming the version won't
Hi,
I would like to confirm that this bug appeared in 3.2.0-25 and was not
an issue in 3.2.0-24. Myself and a number of other people are all
experiencing this issue using an HP Pavilion DV6, as per this thread on
Ubuntu Forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=12034674
Is it possible

Public bug reported:
In the Screensaver Preferences window, many screensavers are listed,
most of which are disabled (grayed out), and a message is displayed that
seemingly suggests that the packages xscreensaver-extras and
xscreensaver-gl-extras will enable some of them. However, there does not

I got a similar crash on another screen saver (with SIGSEGV in
do_assignment()) but am not sure how to reproduce this. And when it was
gltext that crashed, I got a different SIGSEGV. So I set this back to
New for now since it was always either a different screen saver or a
different SIGSEGV.

I am also experiencing a crackling noise when I reboot on Lucid, but I'm
using an HP Pavilion DV6. I imagine the cause is similar or the same,
though. Or should I make a separate bug report?
Here's some more info about my system:

So, it seems that actually, even if I don't run killall gnome-panel,
the white bar tends to eventually go away. Maybe the chance of the white
bar appearing (or not appearing) happens every time the panel changes? I
wonder if the white bar can randomly appear after the panel being drawn
without it,
Hmm, today when I booted into lucid, gnome loaded with both bug #439448
and this one. I ran killall gnome-panel to workaround the other bug
and, to my surprise, the white bar also went away shortly after. This
made me curious and I've tried to experiment a bit with this. First, I

I'm currently using Ambiance, the default theme in Lucid, and I've
noticed the following behaviour.
When I get the white line, I can make it go away by going to System
Preferences Appearance, change to another theme (e.g. Clearlooks), and
then change back. When the panel goes back to Ambiance,
I am also experiencing this issue. Worked in Ubuntu 9.10, not working in
