I went through all of the suggestions mentioned, and then ultimately
found that the problem was that LaTeX wasn't working because something
was screwy in the ~/.texmf-var directory. I moved that directory out of

Exact same issue here. It installs fine on my laptop from a the USB
startup disk I made. Unfortunately, my desktop doesn't have the option
to boot from a USB disk so I have to use a CD, which gives me this
problem.

Workspace switcher no longer works after adding 17th workspace
A little more information -
The window manager is metacity. I can go into gconf-editor and change
the number of workspaces there. The same result occurs. When the
number of workspaces is set above 16, nothing seems to occur at that
point (when num_workspaces is actually changed). However,

I also have this problem. It fails to mount both my /var/tmp and my
(encrypted) swap. If I hit escape for the shell and run mount
/var/tmp and then exit the shell, it succeeds (including mounting the
swap by itself). I also have the same problem on another system which
is configured similarly
On a lark, based on another thread, I swapped out my 4 port Linksys
switch for a Belkin switch I had laying around and I know get my 100mbs

I have started to log items and placed the data in a ODS file posted
above. Message and attachment did not go through together.
I started with data being written to a .txt file to home directory. . .
changed to the /dev/shm directory so data written to the file would not
conflict
I will agree the FTP does not work for me either.
the best thing for myself was to do a reboot. transfers are good for the
first hour or two... then get mediocre and after a day possibly two...

Yeah, it appears that diff cannot appropriately parse Unicode filenames.
I tested this quite a bit and discovered that diff can distinguish
filenames if

I checked on a few other systems I have access to and it works correctly on all
of them:
Red Hat Enterprise 5.3,
Debian 5.0
SunOS 5.8
However I don't know configuration details about these.

This is still true in 8.10. In fact it seems to be a standard on other
linux systems as well. However, SunOS diff appears to use the last -C #
instead of the largest.

I followed the hint mentioned above by Luca from bug 359600 and disabled
uxa then added these lines in xorg:
Option AccelMethod EXA
Option MigrationHeuristic greedy
While it did boost performance somewhat, it was still very sluggish.

Followed my own instructions and it actully works .. its seems that when
test the issue in the past the last tab remaining open actually had a
flash movie in it.

Flash does not release audio device
I can confirm that this bug exists with an Intel card but not NVidia.
Also can confirm that running with UXA eliminates the problem, but that
causes frequent system hang/crashes.
I also tried upgrading from the Beta with the Ubuntu Edgers repo enabled
but that produced no change in behavior. UXA

Binary package hint: nautilus
file manager only opens in max view (takes the whole screen). The
collapse/resize/exit buttons at the top are hidden. There is no way to
resize the file manager. Even if i click on the tab at the bottom,
nothing happens. I am using ubuntu
I can confirm this bug by simply creating a playlist of YouTube videos
and optionally save it to disk. even if you just leave the list playing
without actually saving it and reopening it later, after some time you
will not be able to play any of the links. I think it might have
something to do
