A few days back my system detected a software update, so I tried to
install it, but it failed, multiple times, and now, everytime I try to
boot into ubuntu, this error message pops up. Please look into this.

I modified the alternatives of python.
update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/python python /usr/bin/python2.7 1
update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/python3 python3 /usr/bin/python3.7 1
update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/python3 python3 /usr/bin/python3.6 2

i installed python3.7 and python2.7 already existed. Needed both pip and pip3.
Then modified the alternatives in a bad way. Got it fixed though.
