ATI 5870 Mobility Radeon [Broadway XT] + Radeon Driver = Black

I am trying to test the Radeon driver with a precursor to switching to
XMir then Mir, but am unable to get into any kind of Graphical Desktop
without using the FGLRX Drivers.
When I purge these from my computer and reboot the computer hangs after
the Ubuntu Loading screen
Upgrade to 0ubuntu11 fixes it for me also.

After upgrading from Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04 although the Nokia is
detected as a Modem you are unable to connect by clicking on the APN.
Have also tried deleting all connection settings and configuring from
scratch without success.

The SUSPEND_MODULES=ath_pci fix above worked fine.
