Thanks for the tip, but I use the machine mainly at home and would find internal speakers much more convenient. On a different thread, there's talk of downloading UCM files to fix this (specifically UCM- master/bytcr5645 and chtrt5645), but no details of where from. Perhaps it's obvious to Ubuntu
