I think this is related to lightdm but I'm not 100% certain.
Periodically the desktop (i.e. Unity and whatever programmes I have
open) locks up. I can move the mouse but clicking has no effect. I can
switch to a terminal with ctrl-alt-1 etc. After a bit of trial and
error
I tried the upstream kernel as requested. I had a few problems with the
3.6 kernel, principally that it was dog slow but the problem still
occurred.

If I suspend my laptop when it resumes the fan no longer works. The
laptop then overheats shortly after resuming and shuts down. From the
conky display I have it would appear that one of the temperatures
sensors fails to update.
The temperature sensors for the cpu cores see
OK so I found an errant daemon running in a separate session was the
cause of my problems. I stopped the service starting automatically and
problem solved.

Just started encountering this problem. Trying to shutdown merely logs
me out and then choosing shutdown does nothing. Opening a terminal
session and using sudo poweroff works.

I also have this problem, upgraded from 9.04 and have been using wicd
instead of NM since 9.04 due to wireless connection issues and U1 just
doesn't work, can't add the computer or connect with it through the
applet.
