I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 on EEEPC 901 (Ralink rt2860). I had this bug too.
With the new release, I also had the bug #496093
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/496093) : no connection
to WPA/WPA2 mixed mode wifi.
I followed the instructions in the post #190 of the previous bug,
Updating drivers ad described in comment #190 works perfectly with eee

I've wiped the disk (with dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda and dd if=/dev/zero

This time, I've builded 3 md devices: md0 at the beginning of the disks, to
hold the /boot partition, md1 to hold the swap and md2 for /. I've also
formatted /boot as ext3

the non correct update of utmp by (?) program would lead to some race condition
and may be security bug in other applications.
I just tagged security, to draw dev attentions, becuase it could be server

I've found that linux-image-2.6.31-19 matches kernel version 2.6.31.6.
My previous (the working one) linux-image was 2.6.31-18 that matches kernel
version 2.6.31.9.

[karmic] Can't connect w/ Option Globesurfer
I seems to be fixed. I'm succesfully running
network-manager 0.8~rc2~git.20100114t223002.d20c61a-0ubuntu1~nmt1~karmic
modemmanager 0.2.git.20100112t172936.a4fee86-0ubuntu1~nmt1~karmic
linux 2.6.31.18.31
Marking it as fixed - fix released, thanks to all!

find another solution! (and therefore in the future I will never buy a Toshiba
@Edouard: I think that the bugs are in some manner related. I've read
that the workaround for nozomi modems is use the module from the 2.6.28
series kernel. I also had success running a 2.6.28 kernel.
I'll file a bug upstream (linux bugzilla), I think you should do the
same.
