Giant terminal icon is blocking out the Terminal win

Opening gnome-terminal in Ubuntu 17.10 shows the terminal window with a
graphic artifact on the right of the title bar, where the window buttons
to minimize, maximize and close are.
The window buttons are working so this is just a visual glitch and does
not otherwise affect g
I tried also: sudo su -c 'echo 10 >
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness'.
Pressing the Fn keys brings up the OSD brightness control, which
reflects the value of the /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
file (and viceversa), but the actual screen brightness does not change.

@brinstar, yes I did the sudo update-grub part, and tried
acpi_brightness=[native|vendor] which for me makes the Fn hot keys not
working (when you press them, no brightness icon appears).
Last update brought in NVidia drivers 384.90, but no joy, the problem is
still present.

I moved to a different place where the WiFi router is right next to my
computer, and the instabilities are gone.
It seems the bug only happens when the WiFi connection is weak or unstable
(e.g. behind many walls or on different floors).

Swing apps do not work (e.g. JConsole, JVisualVM, IntelliJ, etc.), while

popup to appear) are not displayed
I wanted to confirm that I was suffering of this bug, but reverting to
the -7 (22.1.7.0) firmware solved the issue for me on AC 7260.
When I was experiencing the problem the firmware in use was 22.24.8.0,
and my dmesg reported what reported in message #8 above. Turning off
power save did not make
After paying more attention to when this bug happen, I don't think it is
related to software updates.
Would it be possible that the setting get reset because of some kind of
file corruption ?

I have an NVIDIA card, and was using the binary driver.
I have switched to the open source driver, and retried the upgrade, and it
worked for me, no more "Real-time signal 0" error nor core dumped.

The slowdown was caused by Zeitgeist, but it seems that this behavior is
much improved in Oneiric (although not completely gone yet), so for now
I am ok to wait a few seconds after logging in
I concur with this bug.
Other switchers have the capability to configure a "popup" timeout,
which is usually around 200 ms.
However, 200 ms for fast typers is way too long.
Unfortunately there is no way to configure that timeout (if it is a
timeout) for the new Application Switcher in 11.10.

In Natty, fully up-to-date, did not see this problem before Natty.
If I store a big file (say 250+ MiB) on the Desktop, then the display of
the initial desktop after login may take up to 30-40 seconds.

I am on karmic beta, Dell Precision M6400.
Suspend to RAM works, but when I try to resume, the system "boots" since I
notice that the disk and fan are running, but the screen remains blank.
