Guys, I don't want to jinx it but... about 5 hours ago I installed Ubuntu 12.04
alpha 2 on my laptop (WD2500BEVT hdd) and, without further configuring it (no
changes to apm or anything like that) it WORKS. Just WORKS.
The temperature stays at 45'C and the load_cycle_count didn't increase even by

I can confirm this although I'm getting all the applets appear twice. It

I'm having an issue related to both Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal and
Dropbox. As I pointed out in the title, Dropbox doesn't come up as an
applet in the indicator-applet - instead, uses an icon in the
notification tray. It worked well

repository version and -bzr818 from awn-testing ppa.

On today's Maverick update, a new kernel appeared. During the depmod
stage, fglrx module failed to build. There were no problems on the
previous kernels.
Of course, I didn't upgrade to the xorg 7.6 & xorg-server 1.9 (so that I
could use fglrx properly).

As requested, I'm reporting this bug. I'll try to include all the needed
information here.
The default aggressive APM / AAM setting ( =254 ) does a fine job on the
load_cycle_count rising issue but actually makes the HDD run really hot.
FYI, on Windows 7 I have set APM = 231
@eggbert I suggest you to use a little application called quietHDD on
Windows. Set it to APM 231 and AAM 128 and it works just great and fixes
the heat/clicking issue.

I have installed this driver on a clean, freshly installed ubuntu 10.04
beta. As a result, the system is unbootable - it doesn't go any further
than a purple screen - the GDM doesn't start and the system freezes.
Also, the recovery mode stops at a black screen and is also unusable.
