I first encountered this with Ubuntu 11.04 OS.
Its has to be the kernel version and I only experience this with 64 bit
version 32 bit seems fine but slow.

I've noticed that the notify-osd memory usage is reduced to 4.8 mbs
recently on my box (regularly updated).
I'd guess that recent changes partially, if not fully, contribute to

The suspend/resume works, in general. I don't remember exactly what
happened before having apport poping up the bug report dialog. May be
linked to memory shortage before the suspension.
