There is several instances of "gnome-screensaver" running when this bug occurs.
When the screen is stuck on "checking..." you can verify this by logging in in
a different tty (with ctrl+alt+F1 or F2, etc...) and try ::
pstree -p | grep "screen"
(-p is for having PID needed to kill the process)
I'm also affected by this bug ! The only way I've found to work around
this bug is to modify gnome-power-manager settings using gconf and
untick options related to asking password after suspend or hibernation.

I was affected by this bug on karmic. Since a fresh install on Lucid, no

Yes I know, the bug in evolution is already filed. I was just wondering
if the two bugs were interrelated as they are both gnome applications. I
think it's strange that two gnome applications stopped using gnome proxy
settings when I upgraded to Karmic...

Hi everybody,
I'm also affected by the proxy bug. This never happens on previous
release. But I wonder if the issue is more general. Since Karmic, my
evolution cannot receive mail when I'm under a proxy, apt-key doesn't
work under a proxy too.
Does anyone experience proxy issues with evolution an
Hi,
I can confirm this bug on Karmic too. I am behind a proxy (without
authentication needed) at work. Apt-get works great and use the proxy
settings in GNOME. Apt-key seems to use the proxy as well (seen with
"sudo netstat -taupe") but the connection is time-out.

Hi everybody !
I am experiencing the same problem. I'm under Karmic, a fresh install, a
82852/855GM graphic card (but on a Dell 510m). The "nomodeset" workaround
didn't work for me. But maybe I've missed something as in grub-pc, there is no
/boot/grub/menu.lst and you have to set options in /et
