I just tried the command and got two messages, the first said the
syncdaemon was still running and the second said that u1sdtool has no
"c"-Option.
So I had a look at the manpage and tried the following:

I tried what you proposed but it did not bring any changes with the
problem. I would still guess that the problem might be caused by the
slow hardware and the slow network connection which lets the sync-daemon
run into a timeout.
On all other computers that I use, the ubuntuone-client

On this machine ubuntuone-client seems to get stuck in an endless loop
after connecting. In intervals of a few minutes times of high CPU-load
or times of high HDD-load follow each other. This goes on for hours

The UbuntuOne Sync daemon caused high processor load or high hdd load in
an alternating way. This went for hours and when I told the UbuntuOne
Sync-Applet to disconnect, it crashed completely
