It didn't seem like anyone was too interested in chasing down this
issue, so they canceled it. I just upgraded Ubuntu, and have not yet
checked to see if the issue still exists in this new version.

ok, got the third line installed, rebooted, plugged in my external mic,
but still, only the internal mic operates, and there is no option to
choose the external.

options snd-hda-intel model=acer adds the mic 2 and line in options, but
also gives me sound settings are incorrect. Trying the other options.
