My system does not seem to like the nvidia driver (I went with
nvidia-340). The display looked like crap, even after working with
nvidia-settings. This has happened before; I think 173 may have been the
last driver that worked well for me. I back to nouveau and the older
versions of xserver-xorg-co

session from the lightdm screen. Firefox appears to be working properly
in the LXDE session launched from lightdm, but crashes in the Lubuntu
session launched
Everything checked on my older Lubuntu amd64 installation updated 10 minutes
ago:
1. sudo firefox works
2. chromium-browser (as opposed to google-chrome) works properly without sudo
3. "Desktop Pager" settings is grayed-out for me.

nightly build I downloaded on March 15. Seems to be a modesetting problem. Saw
the same problems with Fedora's 3.8 kernels. The 3.9 kernels show garbled dots

JMicron internal card reader recognizes SD only
I believe I found the problem. The ownership on /var/lib/PolicyKit was,
for some unknown reason, root:avahi. I changed it to root:polkituser,
and all appears to be well - no ck-launch-session needed. I'm not sure
how the directory ownership got messed up, but it's likely to have been
my fault.

I tried running cx-launch session before startx, as part of ~/.Xclients-
default (see below), and within LXDE. No change under any of the above
