After searching a lot, it seems the only workaround is to use
ndiswrapper. No point in raising the bug since it's been the same since
8.10 till now, due to the buggy rtl8187b mod.

Like tarung1793 says it's sometimes up and sometimes down for me, even
with the linux-backports-modules-wireless-lucid-generic packages
installed. It's a shame that supporting a thing as simple as WiFi takes
weeks and why wouldn't it drive people away from Linux, in general?

I'm having a very weird issue with a Dell Inspiron 1501 running Ubuntu
9.10 and kernel 2.6.31-14. The system goes into hibernation every time I
plug AC power.

Thank you for the workaround but this is not really a fix. This behavior
of DHCP by default is incredibly faulty. I have 2 interfaces. Both are
connected to the same network for specific reasons and due to this weird
feature everytime I boot I need to shutdown the eth1.

In x86_64 system with dual Fiesty Ubuntu (32-bit) and XP, I formatted
the drives of Ubuntu from XP so as to install 64-bit Fiesty Ubuntu.
After the format I used XP's bootable disc and fixed MBR by (fixmbr) and
now the system had only XP with
One more info is that, in all these tries, I only used ReiserFS for /
and not anything else like xfs, ext2 or ext3.
