Oh, I just read your comment. I actually reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04, upgraded to 10.10, reset ubuntu with the rm -rf command I listed above, and retried the upgrade, but this time it actually worked. I think I may have figured out the reason why Ubuntu could not calculate the changes. I had added the
