For the record, I spent the past 30 minutes in Fedora 9 live, and there
was no sign of the fan really revving up. Even with heavy usage...

It should be noted that my wife has an identical Inspiron 1420n (ordered
a couple of weeks after mine) that does this exact same thing after
upgrading to 8.10 final.
Any help on this matter would be great. I am going to run a Fedora 9
live disc for a while to see if it causes the same issue.

I'm affected by this as well, but do have a *lame* workaround.
Simply press F11 to make the window go to true fullscreen mode. Then,
press F11 again. Viola, Firefox is its normal self (aside from the
rendering bug I'm running into).
