I've observed on several occasions that i've been unable to get the cups
daemon to respond to changes in configuration files and have been unable
to log in as administrator via the web interface when i know that i
should be able to; even though i did "/etc/init.d/cups restart
epperflashplugin-nonfree except
by hacking at the script.

With these changes i have been able to use my locally compiled
avidemux_qt4 under ubuntu 11.10 to edit dvd-compatible mpeg output
generated by mencoder...

Oh yes, /proc/version_signature yields:
Ubuntu 2.6.22-14.46-generic
As i mentioned, on different hardware (but same model), i get the same
problem for which the same workaround works...

I have more detailed information about the kubuntu disk,
but the same problem appeared with the ubuntu disk
Using kubuntu live cd:
Click on installer
answer three questions
it then says "scanning disk" a
is connected to the
internet,
and where dhcp is helpful, is identified as "eth2".
My ISP delivers reliable service, including DHCP service.
This would be a serious impediment to a new user
