I placed a sample text file to test the syncing.
At first, it said that the sync was successful, but after looking on the web,
the file was not there.
I then edited the file and saved it, this then started the syncing process
again...
The addresses are irrelevant.
My point is that it won't let me add static anything. Only after I removed the
dhcp3-client could I add anything.
Otherwise, all settings were lost after reboot.

This problem does still exist. I've even updated all my software
packages first to ensure I have the latest software.

But basically, if you enable the nvidia drives from the restricted
drivers icon, aft
I've installed 8.10 and can confirm that I have had zero problems.
The issue has been corrected.

@Nick Thanks, I'll do all that when I can reboot into Ubuntu again.
I think the main problem is that the nVidia 9600 is not really well
supported. After much hassle with nvidia-glx-new, things seemed to start
coming right.

Alrighty Jim, so I did what you said, seems to load all the modules
fine, then go into a blank screen again...
I have tried it in Graphics Safe Mode which seems to work fine... you
think I should look at what module was the last to be loaded perhaps?
