I guess my point is that I can no longer give information about this
particular bug. I don't use fetchmail anymore, and I certainly can't
remember my circumstances around it from over a year ago.

While I agree that having to workaround just to remove a package is not
a resolution, I would like to point out that this bug was filed over a
year ago. As such, I have no idea if it's current, because I have long
since changed my system.

I am experiencing this problem as well. However, I have Intel
Sandybridge integrated graphics on a single monitor setup. Fresh install
of 12.04 64-bit.
