I don't see a terminal (I think this is because I detached it to act as
a separate floating window while it was working, pre-update). I likewise
see an entry in the taskbar: Terminal, with the X logo. In addition,
this entry is only there when the Dolphin window is active.

I did a quick search--your symptoms (for both of these bugs together)
seem identical to bug 211682.
As Yuriy said on your other bug, it seems that something in KDE is
detecting the wrong resolution.
Have a look at bug 211682 (together with the screenshot) and check
whether you're seeing anything
Can you just check that you definitely removed the main package
('apache2'). Also, check in update manager exactly which package it is
offering an update for--I'm guessing it'll be the main one, apache2, but
if it's something else, double check that you removed that.

I find that, as I type an e-mail in kmail composer, it seems to get
gradually slower to respond to keyboard input. This is most noticeable
if I'm editing an e-mail quite a bit, and the backspace key will take a
second to stop acting after I release
I've just read through this bug, and a little experimentation led me to
conclude that I had the same problem. Setting -B254 seems to solve it,
although the hard drive temperature is now stable at 49 degrees, which
is a bit higher than before.
Noticeably on the comments, a number of people suggest
XGL is required to run compositing window managers like Compiz, at least
on some graphics cards.
(For the time being, I've opted out of compiz/xgl, in favour of

People are using Xgl because the upgrade to Gutsy makes them use XGL by
default (at least, it did for me). I assume this is because Ubuntu (with
GNOME) is using Compiz by default. Kubuntu still uses kwin, but also now

It does indeed. It was probably enabled by default after bug 102807. I
would suggest that, unless the bug can be fixed quickly, it is more
important that openoffice works properly (as its the default office pack
in (K)ubuntu) than it is that WINE etc. can fullscreen properly, so for
the time being

I have definitely tried to set it up to connect to a secure LDAP server
in the past. Loading up kaddressbook has similar consequences - the
window does appear, but then it goes to maximum CPU usage and hangs.
Would it be a good idea to mark this bug as being related to a specific
package? In my (admittedly limited) experience, bugs get attention
faster if you specify a package.
I'd mark it as affecting kwin, although maybe it should go with xgl.

Compiz attempts to shadow everything - this looks OK for normal windows,
but is possibly excessive for tooltips, and looks stupid if you bring up
Katapult (the launcher has rounded corners, but Compiz makes the shadow
for a square object).

On Kubuntu Gutsy beta, with compiz and compiz-fusion-plugins-main, the
icons for the various options and categories are gone, replaced with a
generic folded-corner-paper icon.
ATI graphics card, with XGL running.

- If it has not already got it, it requests access to my KDE wallet, which I
give it, via the usual dialog.
