Ok, got it. It's NOT perfect, but it works. Do the following: Copy "none.png" and "panel-dark.png" to "/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/apps/img". Replace "gnome-panel.rc" in "/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/apps" with the attached replacement. All needed files are in the attached .tar.gz.
