i am experiencing the same problem since two years to this day on my edge 13 
(amd). no difference between 10.04 and 12.04. (all 64 bit)
i am currently using kernel 3.2.0-24-generic. so 3.0 kernel does not resolve 
the problem.
system freezes randomly - sometimes several times an hour, sometimes not for 
weeks.
the only regularity i found was that it seems only to occur if mains power is 
connected and wifi is on simultaneously.
