Same with me in 13.10, it happend two times in a row. After restarting
it works again but it seems unstable. Clock disappears and time menu
'grays out'. It started with no apparent reason.

Yes, it also affects trusty. I use my local keyboard layout as default
and english is even not among the keyboard layouts list but it still
defaults to english.
