I'm surprised to continue seeing such behavior even on the latest
release or 17.04.  In my case, I'm running inside of a Hyper-V VM.  I am
able to type in my password only when using recovery mode.  I will
attempt to edit my startup config to disable the clean splash screen,
but I think it's ridiculous that we have to manually modify
configuration files just to type in a password for such a basic feature.
