nvidia-glx-legacy is in fact just a driver for legacy nvidia chips (71-series driver). It does not in anyway provide drivers for the chips that are supported by the drivers that are in the nvidia-glx package (96 series driver). Looking at the other packages in the Gutsy repository, I do not think it will be a problem if the package is modified.
Renaming the nvidia-glx package would be nice, but I don't think it should be called nvidia-glx-current. It contains the drivers for old nvidia chips that are just a little bit more recent than the chips that are supported by nvidia-glx-legacy.
