hand the issue I'm seeing may be due to integration of gnome-shell into

Seeing this with git gui which is also Tcl/Tk. Compiz appears to crash
and re-launch itself. The app is still running but doesn't draw a
window. Tested with Metacity and works fine.

I'm having the same problem but apport seems not to be working, it came
up with the bug report once and I clicked 'send' and it closed without
doing anything and now FF crashing doesn't launch apport. I've tried
restarting the service but no joy.

I just upgraded from a fairly un-modified Feisty install (installed
about a month ago) to a Gutsy pre-beta iso (downloaded on 26 Sep) and it
failed to configure X for my built in nVidia 7400 Go. With manual (GUI)
configuration nv works ok but the proprietary driver
The problem is not about user assumptions, it's that a piece of
functionality, admittedly a small one, disappeared for users upgrading.
Ubuntu shipped with a .bash_profile that appended ~/bin to PATH if it
existed. When Ubuntu switched to Dash that functionality shouldn't have
just disappeared,
But there is stuff in the .bash_profile shipped by older versions of
Ubuntu that never gets run. So certain functionality stopped working on
upgrade, which seems like a regression to me.
For example, my desktop which now runs feisty, but was upgraded from
older versions of Ubuntu has the

I'm still sometimes getting the issue where it gets stuck maximised

Jclemon, ok, just a suggestion, as removing the file KDE had created
fixed this for most things, then an update to OO.o fixed it for that for
me, so I thought you could have received the fix but still been
suffering from the ~/.fonts issue.
Do you have, or have you had, KDE installed? It messes with Gnome's font
settings in ~/.fonts (iirc). If you have that file could you try
removing it and restarting Gnome? The problem is gone on my Feisty
install, including with Abiword.
However, although its a separate issue, I really think this
NM failed for me on Apr 12th feisty update. After dist-upgrade my
network was down. /etc/init.d/network restart got the network back up
but NM now reports 'No network connection'. The network connection is a
static wired connection which NM noticed was connected yesterday, but
not today.

I have what seems to be the same problem. On cold boot my motherboard's
built-in soundcard is detected, and on restart it's my Audigy (which is
the one I want to use).

Adding 'acpi=off' to the end of the kernel params in grub (after 'ro
quiet splash') stops the system completing it's boot. I end up dumped
into a busybox shell.
There's nothing obvious in the syslog from that. I did see something
about module symbols not being found though.

I did update the BIOS a while back. Looking at Chaintech's site now it
looks like they've merged with someone and stopped supporting their
motherboards. The site only has driver downloads not BIOS updates.
I'll try disabling acpi now.

Confirmed here with GeForce Go 7400 on a Vaio vgn-fe11h.
Driver detection in the installer failed too (I ended up with vesa
instead of nv).
Fixed with dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and manual driver selection.

[Feisty] Nvidia installation on GeforceFX5200 buggy
I'm was also having random segfaults in multiple apps on my laptop
install of Edgy. Dapper was fine and the crashes showed up nearly
immediately. I'm not totally sure if the issue is fixed now or not as I
haven't been using my laptop recently, but it did seem to improve a few
weeks back.

I can confirm this has happened to me too (edgy beta). Somehow this got
turned on (no idea how) and it took me two days to work out what was
wrong.
Gnome worked fine in failsafe mode, but in normal mode it seemed the
keyboard was being ignored. It turns out I just wasn't holding down the

Well nothing seems to be crashing on first launch of gaim after logging
in any more. I don't think it has for a day or two. I did have a crash
on closing gaim today, though it was just gaim that crashed, so probably
another
crash reports

Public bug reported:
apt-get updated today (i'm running an edgy install upgraded from
dapper), and a number of things have crashed on launch.
On first launch gaim crashed, on second launch eds-feed and galago-eds-
feed crashed.

Importance: Undecided
Although gaim keeps kicking off bug buddy reports the eds feed crash
hasn't happened again.
I will keep an eye on it and see if I can work out how to reproduce if
it happens again.
This first started happening after I installed a bunch of the edgy
telelepathy and galago bits and bobs to try them
I have the same issue but am having difficulty reproducing it with gdb.
Will keep trying to get a backtrace.

Same here. Just adding a comment to mention that it's not just the
preview. This also stops you from adding a feed.

I did an apt based upgrade from Dapper to edgy and now some fonts are
rendering badly in some apps.
Specifically:
UI and content fonts in OpenOffice.org and Firefox.
Monospace in gnome-terminal.
I'm using sub-pixel smoothing.

In the attached screenshot if you compare the monospace rendering in
gnome-terminal with that in the font picker preview. Also compare the
menu fonts for OO.o and FF with that of gnome-terminal.
